STARTING NOW: Learn to Code with nimbl <> Young Coders

Hey, future tech stars! Want to try coding but don't know where to start? Or maybe you’ve already started, and you’re ready to take it to the next level? Well, we’ve got some exciting news for you! nimbl is teaming up with Young Coders, a competition that’s perfect for beginners and all about encouraging young people to get creative with coding. And guess what? This year, the theme is "Budgeting Better."

Inspire Young Minds: Get Involved in the Young Coders Competition 2025!

The Young Coders Competition 2025 is in full swing, and there’s still plenty of time for children aged 7–13 to take part! Whether your child is a complete beginner or already enjoys coding, this competition is a fantastic opportunity to develop problem-solving skills, creativity, and confidence—all while having fun.

What’s the Challenge?

This year’s theme is “Budgeting Better,” encouraging children to design a game that explores money management in an interactive and engaging way. It’s a great way to introduce financial literacy concepts through play, helping young minds think about saving, spending, and making smart money choices.

Free Resources to Get Started

We know getting started with coding can feel daunting, but don’t worry—we’ve got you covered! The competition provides free, easy-to-follow resources to support both students and educators:

12-week and 6-week plans for different skill levels, from beginners to experienced coders.
Assembly slides to introduce the challenge at school or in a club.
FAQs and cheat sheets to help along the way.

All resources are designed to make coding accessible and fun, whether it’s being taught in school, an after-school club, or even at home.

How to Get Involved

  • For Schools & Clubs: Introduce the competition as a class project or extracurricular activity. STEM Ambassadors are also available through STEM.org.uk to provide guidance and support.

  • For Parents: Encourage your child to take part individually or with a team of friends. They’ll not only learn new skills but also have the chance to win £700 for their school!

  • British Science Week Idea: If you haven’t started yet, why not assign it as a fun computer science homework project during British Science Week (March 2025)? The competition’s “Budgeting Better” theme aligns well with this year’s British Science Week theme, “Change and adapt.”

Join a Virtual Assembly

Want to get your students excited? Sign up for a live virtual assembly on March 7th or March 10th to hear more about the challenge. If you can’t make it live, no worries—the sessions will be recorded and available on the Young Coders YouTube channel.

How to Submit Entries

The deadline for submissions is Friday, 9th May 2025. You can submit entries individually via the Young Coders website or use the multiple entry form for teams. Need help? All forms and submission details can be found on the website or attached to your competition pack.

Why Get Involved?

Beyond the fun and prizes, the Young Coders Competition helps children develop essential problem-solving, teamwork, and coding skills—all of which are becoming more valuable in today’s digital world. Who knows? This could even be the start of a future career in tech—perhaps as a finance algorithm writer or game developer!
