The Easter bank holiday weekend has nearly arrived and for many families, it’s a time for lots of fun, springtime activities, and not to mention chocolate!
With sunny weather on the way, there is all sorts you can do with your children over the long-weekend, from arts and crafts to Easter-themed baking. To make life easy for you, we have pulled together some of our top suggestions for Easter-weekend activities that won’t break the bank.
Egg decorating
Why not try your hand at egg decorating for a bit of family fun? Not only is it a great crafty activity for the kids, but painted eggs also make for lovely Easter decorations around the home.
Before you start painting, you’ll need to get your eggs ready. You can hard boil the eggs (don’t forget to let them cool before painting!) or blow them out of the shells. BBC Good Food has a great step-by-step guide if you need a bit of help with this. For a vegan-friendly option, you could also opt for plastic or wooden eggs.
When your shells or eggs are ready, it’s time for the real fun to start. From traditional painting and glitter, to more complex designs with tie-dying and dried flowers, Good Housekeeping has you covered with plenty of creative designs, as well as ideas for how to use your decorated eggs, such as making them into a cute Easter wreath to hang on your front door.
Easter baking
Nothing quite says Easter like getting stuck into a bit of baking and it is a great way to spend some family time without spending huge sums of money.
BBC Good Food has a great range of kid-friendly Easter-themed recipes. Chocolate-lovers might opt for this Easter rocky road or a classic chocolate Easter nest but don’t worry if chocolate isn’t your go-to! There are plenty more non-chocolate options, such as this carrot patch cake or bunny cupcakes we’re sure your children will love.
Easter-egg hunt
Whether it is rain or shine, what better way to spend the Easter weekend than hunting for Easter eggs in your house or garden? The options are endless, from hunting for real eggs which you can cook together for lunch, to Easter egg ‘relays’, Country Living Magazine has come up with a whole host of fun egg-themed ideas to keep you and your kids busy all weekend long.
Whatever you choose to do, there is plenty of fun to be had for the whole family. The long-weekend is the perfect time to spend some quality time together getting stuck into some fun, crafty activities – we hope you enjoy it!
