GCSE’s – they’re as simple as ABC…

Revision tips for students

We understand that exams can be a nerve-racking time, but with well-prepared notes and dedicated time spent practicing for your exams – your hard work will pay off!

If you’re looking for straight A* results when you open your exam results in August then search no further… We’ve pulled together the best 5 tips to help you get started with your exam revision.

1. Create a revision time table

With so many exams to revise for, sometimes it can get a bit overwhelming. But if you plan your revision time well it can take a lot of stress out from the process.

The best way to do this is with a revision timetable and this is where your organisation skills will need to shine by splitting your evenings into difficult subjects and high priority ones to ensure you cover all bases.

2. Know your learning style

Everyone has a different way to learn and remember information, so what works for some of your friends may not be the best thing for you. Take the time to think whether you are a visual, auditory or kinaesthetic learner?

There are many different ways to revise with mind maps, flash cards and key words being some of the popular methods – you need to find what works for you.

Also, time of day is important – and whether you are an owl or lark you should make this work to your advantage and spend time revising when you know your brain is at its most alert.

3.  It’s time for a break…

As much as you might think revising every second of every day might be the best way to cram every piece of information into your brain, sometimes this can actual cause a brain overload – you need to be stress free during exam periods and so taking regular study breaks is also key to savvy revision skills.

Giving your mind a rest is actually a proven way of being more engaged in the long run – so whether it’s a brisk walk round the park or even down to the local shop to stock up on exam snacks (healthy brain food and lots of H2O!) that half an hour can do wonders for you!

4. Collaboration is key

All your friends will be in the same boat as you so why not help each other out? When you have piles of course work and studying to do at this time sharing is caring.

Your favourite subject may be your best friend’s nightmare and vice versa so giving them a helping hand and getting the same in return could turn out to be a life saver.

5. Practice makes perfect

I’m sure you’ve heard it many times before, but it’s true. Practice, Practice and Practice some more – You can download previous year’s exam papers on the internet and these are the best way to put your revision to the test.

By giving yourself a real life run through you can see if your revision has paid off. It will give you a clear of idea of how the questions are asked and the level of detail required for each answer. Plus by timing yourself you will know how long to spend on each question, factoring in time to re-check your answers at the end.

So from the whole team here at nimbl, GOOD LUCK! and most importantly relax and enjoy your exams – it may sound silly but you will only take your GCSE’s once so make it a time to remember.

Just remember it’s a few weeks of hard work and then you have all of summer to relax and celebrate!
